Japheth Njenga took Benjamin Mutunga and Monica Nyambura to present Alfred Biolek an award of the highest recognition for his lifetime achievement in the media at the DER DEUTSHE FERNSEHPPREIS event (GERMAN TELEVISION AWARDS) in Germany. The event was funded by the German Media Gala.
SHANGILIA'S END OF TERM 1 REPORT 2009
Athletics
Shangilia fielded both boys and girls teams in athletics. 3 girls were selected to play for the Divisional team and they were Grace Wairimu, Ann Wairimu, Agnes Wangari. 5 boys were also selected to join the team and they were Brian Kamau, Isaac Njuguna, Francis Muturi, Gerald Kariuki and Kennedy Malumbe. At the Divisional level, 3 boys and 2 girls proceeded to the Provincial Championship. At the Provisional level, 2 girls took part and they were Grace Wairimu and Agnes Wangari. At the National level, Nancy Njoki participated in the National Championship held at Nyeri in Central Province.
Athletics Kenya held a Divisional Championship in which Shangilia's boys scooped positions 1, 2, and 3. They received medals and certificates. Mwaniki proceeded to District and Provincial Championship and performed quite well.
Soccer
Shangilia participated in the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) under 14 tournaments for the Nairobi West District. Shangilia drew 1-1 and lost 2-1 in the matches it played in.
Debates
Debates were held on the following topics, "should women inherit land?" and "is a girl child better than a boy child?"
Art Club
Tie Dye, still life drawings, cutting and pasting were done. Notable items were produced by Jackson Koech, Cynthia Wanjiku, Dennis Makumi and Grace Wairimu.
Excursions/Outings
Std 6 had a nature walk to study the effects and impacts of water pollution on Mau Mau river in Kangemi. Irene Wangechi and Simon Njuguna visited the park on a trip organized by Jukudi Children's Club.
Child Rights Workshop
Agnes Wangari took part in a 3 day workshop on child rights and girl/boy child empowerment organized by the Department of Children's Services.
House Activities
House quizzes were held for academic purposes. Boy/Girl talks have gone on well basically for counseling.Open forums were held to help regarding any issues amongst the children.
